"In the beginning, there was Kraftwerk"
1974's "Autoban" broke the top-10 charts in Germany, England, and the US, and introduced electro to the world. Since then, their minimalist pop has continued to have a profound impact on more artists and genres then we could possibly name.
In 1979, Gary Numan turned away from guitars and embraced the cold new sound of synthesizers (combined with guitar effect pedals). In the span of just 6 months, he released "Replicas" (as Tubeway Army) and "The Pleasure Principle", and created a whole new genre: synth. Since then he has continuously re-invented himself, and in 1994, Gary embraced industrial and darkwave.

Tue, June 9, 2009 - 9:21 AMThis month’s Strangelove was a huge success – much thanks and respect to DJs Prince Charming, Otter, and Fact50 for helping me pay tribute to the founders or electro and synth! There were also a LOT of new faces at Strangelove this month – welcome!
Some personal high-points for me: having all 4 DJs dress up as Kraftwerk from the Man Machine album, seeing Melting Girl beam her gorgeous smile and DANCING with crutches, and hearing the crowd cheer whenever I mixed another Kraftwerk song in.
I hope to see you all back at Strangelove on July 3rd, when we hold our first “No Fucking Remixes Night” with guests Unit77, Prince Charming, and Andy T. Each DJ will plan 1 remix per 45-minute set. The first person to come to the DJ booth and say “Hey – that’s a remix” will win a drink ticket (good for 1 free drink).
